Europe is facing relatively high inflation and weak economy.Where is the ECB's monetary policy headed?

Jean-Claude Trichet, ECB former president, had a Dialogue with SFC journalist recently in Bund Summit 2024. Hesaid “the work of fighting inflationis not achieved. A lot of our work has to be done.The euro areacoreinflation in Augustremains at 2.8% at a level which is significant higher than 2%.”

All taken into account,Trichethasconfidence that the central banks will continue to do what is necessary to give full credibility to their own targetandto their own definitionofprice stability.

“We have a consensus on the definitionofprice stability at the global level. Thatis something whichof coursehelpsconsiderably anchoring expectations,”he added. “In the medium term, 2% isthe expectation thatmust have in mind. ”
